Best way to improve as a coder with Claude Code, OpenCode, Cursor, etc.?
Stop using them. ๐
- Become a Linux God first. WSL2 is fine. zsh, lsof, tmux, zoxide, fzf, git, piping output, etc. -> should be familiar to you.
- Code manually. Spend many months in VSCode until you've shipped something real, until you can debug a failing build without googling every error. Learn only from official documentation (e.g., Python or NextJS docs) and interactive tutorials.
- Learn to read stack traces, use console.log strategically, and trace execution flow manually.
- Click "Not interested in this post" on all the posts from prompt gurus.
- Build something complex and useful without AI first. Feel the friction of hunting bugs, reading error messages, consulting docs. This struggle builds the mental models that make AI assistance actually useful.
After that period, start with the official documentation from Anthropic and Claude Code. Then go from there.
